Assistant Regional Director, East of England

Role Summary

Based at our East of England office in Newmarket, the CBI East of England team covers Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and North Buckinghamshire.

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved with the East of England regional operations of the CBI, the UK’s leading business membership organisation. The Assistant Regional Director works with the Regional Director to support CBI members, grow the membership base and raise the profile of the CBI in the East of England through events and lobbying.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the relationship with a portfolio of member companies to ensure that CBI supports their business to grow
  • Understand and articulate the needs of specific sectors of relevance to the regional economy and create solutions to support the development of these sectors
  • Grow the membership base in the region and achieve specific financial targets through focussed recruitment strategies
  • Utilise your understanding of the political and economic environment to attract and recruit new members to engage in CBI activity
  • Develop networks within the East of England business community, maintaining the profile of the CBI
  • Deputise for the regional director when required.
  • Work with the regional director and team to provide a compelling membership offer to existing and potential CBI members
  • Support policy colleagues with case studies from the membership that demonstrate how policy impacts competitiveness, helping CBI influence the debate
  • Work with colleagues across the UK and internationally to identify business trends and to alert policy makers of the implications of these changes in the business environment
  • Help to design and deliver the business plan for CBI activities in the East of England.
  • Key focus is to work with the events executive to design and deliver the retention and recruitment strategy focused on delivering key briefings and events and creating a ‘club environment’ in the region.
  • Develop and manage relationship with sponsors and key stakeholders across the region to ensure repeat sponsorship agreements and additional funding year on year.
  • Deliver events / roundtables / lunches/ briefing focused on regional policy issues of relevance to CBI members and effectively advocate the CBI position.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience of sales and marketing from a business to business context
  • IT literate and willingness to learn new systems
  • Willingness to perform most of your own administrative work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Media experience
  • Ability to develop good working relationship with internal and external customers
  • Full driving license holder
  • Relevant business background demonstrating commercial awareness
  • Must be curious and enjoy learning about new businesses and sectors
  • Enthusiastic ‘can do’ attitude with an ability to sell
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • First class networking skills
  • Credible with an ability to develop good working relationships at a senior level
