Assistant Regional Director - South West

Role Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved with the South West regional operations of the CBI, the UK’s leading business membership organisation. The Assistant Regional Director works with the Regional Director to support CBI members, grow the membership base and raise the profile of the CBI in the South West. Key Responsibilities:

Area of responsibility

  • Help to design and deliver the business plan for CBI activities in the South West
  • Manage the relationship with a portfolio of member companies to ensure that CBI supports their business to grow
  • Engage in specific regional policy issues of relevance to CBI members and effectively advocate the CBI position.
  • Understand and articulate the needs of specific sectors of relevance to the South West economy and create solutions to support the development of these sectors
  • Develop networks within the South West business community, maintaining the profile of the CBI
  • Work with the regional director to provide a compelling membership offer to existing and potential CBI members
  • Grow the membership base in the region and achieve specific financial targets through focussed recruitment strategies
  • Utilise your understanding of the political and economic environment to attract and recruit new members to engage in CBI activity
  • Support the co-ordination of the CBI’s events programme for the region
  • Support policy colleagues with case studies from the membership that demonstrate how policy impacts competitiveness, helping CBI influence the debate
  • Work with colleagues across the UK and internationally to identify business trends and to alert policy makers of the implications of these changes in the business environment
  • Deputise for the regional director where required.

Success Criteria:

  • Retention of existing members
  • Growing the existing membership based on the requirements of the south west business plan
  • Customer satisfaction from CEOs in membership
  • Quality of business network and profile

Knowledge & Experience

What an individual must know or understand to be able to fulfil the role’s requirements

  • Relevant degree/professional qualification or equivalent
  • Experience in  account management dealing with senior business people
  • Understanding of the economic, social and other pressures on business
  • Good knowledge of the South West, UK and international economic and political climate.
  • Understanding of the commercial and industrial makeup of the South West.
  • Experience in creating an events programme.
  • A good sense of humour and can do attitude.
  • A strong work ethic.

  • Relevant business background
  • Good management experience
  • Experience of sales and marketing from a business to business context
  • IT literate and willingness to learn new systems
  • Willingness to perform most of your own administrative work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Comfortable in dealing with the media
  • First class networking skills
  • Ability to develop good working relationship with internal and external customers
  • Full driving license holder
