Disability Confident Employer

In February 2017, the CBI became accredited as a Disability Confident Employer under the DWP’s Disability Confident Scheme.

What does this mean?

The Disability Confident accreditation means that, as an employer, the CBI is taking action to ensure that people with disabilities and long term health conditions feel supported, engaged and able to fulfil their potential in the workplace.

What do we do?

The accreditation recognises some of the proactive steps we are taking to support people with disabilities in applying for and working at the CBI.

These steps include offering interviews to all candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role and being flexible with our recruitment processes.  For example, allowing CV applications rather than only application forms where that’s a supportive step, offering Skype interviews and supporting flexible working patterns where possible. It also means that we take active steps to make adjustments in the workplace to support staff with disabilities.

Additionally, we will be working this year with Inclusive Employers and Mencap to deliver work experience opportunities to people with learning disabilities.

Why ‘Disability Confident’?

We think it is one way of showing our commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse place to work. We always continue to look for ways to do more, but this accreditation demonstrates to our employees and potential employees that we take our commitment to supporting people with disabilities at work seriously.
