James’s role is to manage commercial operations, processes, system and procedure compliance, membership analysis and insight. His team is responsible for improving the performance of membership processes, productivity and overall control of the business.
Before becoming director, James spent three years as Head of Education and Skills Policy covering 14-19 education, further and higher education, and workforce skills development. James has previously worked as Head of Public Services Policy and also in the CBI’s employment policy team where he focused on companies' employee engagement practice, trade union legislation and legislation to prevent employee discrimination.
James joined the CBI in 2002, after completing a politics degree at Cardiff University.
