The UK is undergoing a revolution in the way we work, the way we live and the way we do business which has wide reaching implications for the economy and society.

    The UK tax system needs to keep pace with these changes so that it can continue to deliver the finance necessary for public services whilst positioning the UK as a competitive location for investment and employment. It’s about time, the tax system caught up with the modern economy.

    Through this project the CBI will consider:

      The CBI will explore ways in which the corporate tax system can encourage productivity enhancing investment to support the Industrial Strategy.

      Our 2017 Autumn Budget submission called for a vision for tax policy that enhances the attractiveness of the UK as a place to do business by:

      • Creating a platform to develop a tax system fit for the modern economy, starting with fundamental reform of business rates and a review of the capital allowances.
      • Clarifying the long-term intentions for financial services taxation
      • Enhancing firms’ long-term growth ambitions through the Patient Capital Review.

    • Modern ways of working

      Establishing the business view on how to identify and tax flexible workers, as well as helping the government to address the tax issues identified in the Taylor Review.

      The CBI will establish the business view on how to identify and tax flexible workers, as well as helping the government to address the tax issues identified in the Taylor Review. During 2018 the CBI will play an active role in consultation about extending the IR35 off-payroll rules to private sector and the HMT led consultation on taking forward the Taylor Review recommendations on employment status.
