Chinese Ambassador to the UK
Liu Xiaoming is a Chinese diplomat currently serving as Ambassador to the United Kingdom. He graduated from Dalian University of Foreign Languages with a major in English and undertook further studies in the United States, obtaining a master's degree in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in 1983. In 2017, he was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa of Nottingham University.
He joined China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1974 and has rich experiences in various overseas postings including in Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Zambia and the United States. From 2001 to 2003, Liu was appointed as China's Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and from 2006 to 2010 as Chinese Ambassador to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. In 2004 and 2005, he was Assistant Governor of Gansu Province and Vice Minister at the Office of the Foreign Affairs Leading Group of the CPC Central Committee respectively. He has served as Chinese Ambassador to the UK since 2010.
He is married to Hu Pinghua and they have one son.
