Our response to labour market statistics

Labour market statistics for November 2018 to January 2019 show employment increased by 222,000 compared with the previous quarter, while unemployment is down by 35,000.

Matthew Percival, CBI Head of Employment, said:

“The UK labour market continues to defy gravity. While it’s encouraging to see real pay growth continuing to increase, subdued economic growth and productivity casts a shadow over this strong labour market performance.

“Now the government must accelerate the industrial strategy, ensuring that the UK economy can generate jobs and pay growth in the future.”
