"The decision of the High Court is unwelcome, but not unexpected"

We have responded to today’s High Court decision to quash planning permission for a new £200m North South Interconnector project.

Commenting on the decision, Angela McGowan, CBI Director for Northern Ireland, said:

“The decision of the High Court is unwelcome, but not unexpected.

“The North-South Interconnector is a vital piece of economic infrastructure that, once built, will unlock greater efficiency in the Single Electricity Market – lowering electricity bills and improving security of supply. Its construction is overwhelmingly in the public interest.

“The business community calls upon the Department for Infrastructure to urgently re-determine the Interconnector application as soon as possible.”
